Premier League club ready to invest in IPL franchise, claims Lalit Modi | Sport | guardian.co.uk

Lalit Modi, the IPL Commissioner, has called on the ECB to make 'minor adjustments'

The 2011 IPL will feature two new teams, the franchise rights to which are to be sold at action before the forthcoming third IPL season begins on 12 March. Minimum bids are reported to be set at $225m (143m), with final prices expected to top $500m (320m).

Lalit Modi, the IPL commissioner, was quoted in the Times as saying: "There is a football club, a very famous football club in the UK, very interested in bidding.

"[They are] probably one of the most famous football clubs %u2013 that's all I can say. Probably top three. They are interested in taking a stake."

It's valued at £143m! Goes to show how much more valuable the league has become in a matter of three seasons. The only major barriers to the continued growth of the League can be ever-present threat of terrorism and ICC's characteristic intransigence over scheduling. Even the latter doesn't seem like a big issue for Lalit Modi these days.
